Winner of Nico Hulkenberg's racing shoes design contest announced

Sahara Force India F1 team unveiled the 'Design a Race Shoe for Nico Hulkenberg' competition winning shoes created by South African Werner du Toit at the team garage of the Circuit of Americas in Austin

Sahara Force India team and renowned racing gear brand Alpinestars showcased the winning shoes of their ‘Design a Racing Shoe for Nico Hulkenberg’ competition, which was won by South African Werner du Toit.


The winning design was unveiled by Nico Hulkenberg at the team garage of the Circuit of the Americas track in Austin which hosts the 2012 United States Grand Prix this weekend. 


The design was chosen personally by Nico out of the 170 entries in the competition from across the globe. Describing the winning design, Nico said, “There were lots of cool designs and the quality of all the entries was very high. The design by Werner was my favorite because it’s fun and captures my personality. People in the paddock have always called me the ‘Hulk’ so it felt right to have the big green man on my shoes this weekend. It’s also appropriate that the design is mostly green and orange - the colors of Sahara Force India”.



Winning design, Design a race shoe
for Nico Hulkenberg contest



Alpinestars has produced two of the limited-edition winning shoes, one of which Nico will wear over the race weekend, and the other one will be autographed by him and presented to the winner. 


On winning the competition and being the only person outside the Formula One paddock to own a pair of the limited edition shoes, Werner said, “I am honoured and excited to have won this competition organised by two of the leading names in today’s F1 paddock. Alpinestars is a world-class brand worn by my racing heroes and I am utterly humbled to have been chosen. I feel like the king's tailor!”


The competition that spanned from October 9 to November 1, aimed at encouraging fans worldwide to submit race shoe designs that best portrayed Sahara Force India team’s distinct multicultural presence in the Formula One paddocks.
