Leading luxury watch brand Rolex has been named the official time-keeper for Formula One from the 2013 season onwards. Rolex will also be the Official Timepiece for Formula One.

Gian Riccardo Marini, Chief Executive Officer of Rolex SA, said, “This is an exciting step for us at Rolex as the fit between Formula One and our brand feels very natural and, like all great partnerships, needs little explanation.”

Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone said, “Without question Rolex is the partner of choice for a world class sporting series like Formula One. This partnership is something that many people interested in Formula One will have been waiting for and should rightly be excited about. Rolex has incredible sporting heritage and therefore Formula One is the right place for Rolex to be.”

As the official time-keeper and timepiece, Rolex will keep time at every Grand Prix and its logo will be posted at F1 circuits during races. It has replaced Hublot which was previously the Official Timekeeper and Official Timepiece since 2010.

Rolex has had a long association with sports like golf, tennis, yachting etc. Its motorsport ties include the Bloodhound SCC World Land Speed Record project, Grand-Am Series and Daytona 24 Hours in the United States.
