Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne will continue with the Italian Toro Rosso team  for the 2013 Formula 1 season. The duo who replaced Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi after the 2011 season, have scored just 21 points after 17 rounds compared to 37 points at the same stage last year. Team Principal Franz Tost, however, believes that Vergne and Ricciardo have done justice to their seats.

Australian Ricciardo, who competed in 11 Grands Prix with HRT last season, scored four ninth places with Toro Rosso this year and stands 18th in the championship standings, with nine points.

“I feel I have been growing and developing as a driver and my approach to the technical side of the sport has also progressed this year, so I am sure that will serve me well in my second season with Toro Rosso. We have had quite a tough season, but despite that, I have always enjoyed a good relationship with all the guys and I am delighted at the idea of working with them for another year,” Ricciardo said.

Frenchman Vergne with 12 points in the drivers’ championship has performed marginally better than his team-mate.

“I feel much stronger now and I know I have become a better driver over the course of the season. I really believe in this team and with all the experience I have gained, combined with the team’s ambitious plans for next year, I think we can look forward to great things in 2013, attacking all the way,” the 22-year-old said.

With three races to go before the season ends, Toro Rosso currently stands in a lonely ninth place in the constructors’ championship with 21 points on the charts.
